Activities at Long Acres and local amenities and information
We highly recommend the (Nature Detective Resources) from the Woodland Trust, which can all be found on the Woodland Trust Website. These activities come in a variety of age ranges and are season specific. Please scroll down to the bottom of their page for hundreds of free resources. Some may need equipment from home, so please have a look before your holiday.
Walks from Long Acres
10 minutes walk from the camping park is The Wiremill Inn on the Lake, set in a converted 15th-century water mill and overlooking a large lake. There is a large terrace looking over the lake and a log fire inside. The Wiremill is dog-friendly.
There are two walks from Long Acres to the Wiremill Inn. One is a ten minute walk (each way) and the other is a thirty / forty minute walk (each way). The walks use bridleways and public footpaths.
We highly recommend booking a table at The Wiremill if you wish to eat. Our reception team will be happy to do so for you. We recommend using the Surrey Interactive Map to plot your route - just enter our postcode (RH7 6LE) and zoom out twice. From here you should be able to see the dotted lines leading to the Wiremill Lake.
Trains and Taxis
Our nearest train station is Lingfield, which is a 45-minute journey to London Victoria. Lingfield train station is a five-minute taxi drive from Long Acres. The taxi should cost approximately £5. You won't often find taxis waiting outside the station, so you may find it easier to pre-order a taxi from Western Cars on 01342 300 000.
Three Bridges is also close and is convenient for Brighton and London Bridge.
Western Cars are our local taxi company, their phone number is 01342 300 000.
Lingfield village is home to Lingfield Park Racecourse and Lingfield Park Marriott Hotel & Country Club (Spa). The village has a very small historic centre and a number of restaurants, cafes and two pubs. There is a doctors surgery in Lingfield Village (Our nearest hospital is in East Grinstead). When visiting the high street we recommend parking in the free car park in Gun Pit Road (RH7 6EN).
The closest small supermarkets are Co-op and Tesco Express, both in Lingfield Village. We recommend parking in the free car park in Gun Pit Road (RH7 6EN).
East Grinstead - Sainsbury's (RH19 1DD) or Aldi (RH19 1HA).
Crawley - Sainsbury's (RH10 8NF) or Tesco (RH10 1GY).
Other Local Attractions
Hever Castle is probably our most popular local attraction.
Built in the 13th century it has huge historical significance
being the former home of Anne Boleyn (second wife of Henry VIII)
as well as the Astor family who owned it for 80 years from 1903.
Hever Castle is equally suitable for adults and children. Adults love the Italian gardens, rowing lake and historical importance and children love the water maze, adventure playground and interactive history activities laid on throughout the year. You can even see jousting competitions in the summer months!
Hever Castle is a fifteen minute drive from Long Acres. There's a lovely pub, called King Henry VIII, which is just outside the castle.
